AMICUS ITS pledge support to Southampton Young Carers Project

Southampton IT firm, Amicus ITS, has given an ‘eggstra’ special treat to it’s chosen charity of the year, the Southampton Young Carers Project (SYCP).

The SYCP, which supports about 150 young people aged 8-24, who are responsible for caring for an unwell or disabled family member, organised an Easter Eggstravaganza event over the Easter Holidays at Southampton’s Mansel Park Pavilion. The event was organised by the older carers for the younger members of the group and included a range of activities from sports, craft and pizza making.

Staff members from Amicus ITS joined in the activities and handed out Easter Eggs to the young group members. They also covered the cost of the day with a donation of £150.

Finance Manager of Amicus ITS, Alan Meldrum said: We have chosen The Southampton Young Carers Project as our charity of the year because we believe it is important for local business to give something back to the community. It’s a fantastic charity that makes a real difference to young people that are faced with difficult circumstances in their lives.”

Team Leader for the Young Carers Project, Julie Marron, said: “The SYCP project provides support services and respite opportunities to ensure that young carers have access to leisure time, education, alternative learning experiences and health services. Like so many local charities we rely on the support of the community and local business to provide us with the resources we need to make important events like this possible.”

The Easter egg giveaway is just one of a number of charity and fundraising efforts being undertaken on behalf of the SYCP by Amicus ITS this year as they aim to reach a target of £1,000.

Amicus ITS provides a range of corporate IT services, from telephone support through to virtual desktop and cloud based IT solutions for its clients, which include Axa, Volvo, Estee Lauder, Ageas and Southampton NHS Foundation Trust.
