IT security cited as major concern for the transport and logistics industry

Managed Service Provider, Amicus ITS, has launched a new initiative for the transport and logistics industry on the back of research highlighting an increased reliance on IT solutions in the industry.

The survey, conducted by Amicus ITS, concluded a rise in the requirement for IT infrastructure, support and managed services within the logistics industry. Furthermore, IT security was considered as a major potential risk as the reliance on mobile technology and the need to access data securely on multiple devices at work or on the move, continues to grow.

The research is further supported by a 2012 Forrester report, which highlighted that 90% of companies will officially support BYOD (Bring Your Own device) by 2014. This affects many logistics operations where organisations use a mixture of devices throughout the workflow, from mobile scanners to forecasting apps for smartphones.

As a result Amicus ITS has launched a new service for the industry combining a wide range of IT support services, including 24x365 UK based service desk operations, Mobile Device Management, Proactive Remote Network Monitoring, Virtualisation, Network Information Security Governance and Cloud Computing.

Amicus ITS Managing Director, Steve Jackson, said: “As the growing reliance on mobile devices at work continues to accelerate, companies are desperately trying to bring greater security and control to the process. The urgency is particularly apparent in the logistics and warehousing sector where mobile devices bring clear advantages to fast-moving and geographically diversified operations.

“Most logistics firms are now adopting and implementing varying mobile solutions to keep ahead of the competition, and those that are not will get left behind. Our IT infrastructure and Managed Service offering is aimed at assisting companies to achieve greater efficiency, performance and security, whether in the office or on the move.”

Amicus ITS is offering a free onsite IT infrastructure and support review for transport and logistics firms interested in the new service. This will provide a clear indication of process and operational efficiencies to help save companies money.  For more information contact Lindsay Burden on 07734 720020.
